Unemployment Benefit Scams

Scammers are falsely filing claims on state unemployment benefits for people who are out of work due to COVID-19.  They are trying to get you to accept these funds on their behalf, then transfer to them or others through cash, checks, or mobile apps, such as the Cash App.  They try to convince you that they are a distant relative, can offer a source of income, or engage in a romantic relationship.

If you are contacted about receiving funds from someone online, do not accept it and cutoff all communications with them.  If you receive a deposit from a state that you don’t recognize or expect, do not withdraw any of the funds, and contact us immediately!
